Halloween Safety Tips

Always use common sense.

Young children should always go trick-or-treating with an adult.

Never trick-or-treat alone. Have at least 2 buddies with you at all times.

Plan your entire route before you go out and make sure your family knows what it is.

Make sure that you are wearing a flame retardant costume.

Wait until you get home and your parents check your candy before you eat any.

Be very cautious of strangers and aware of your surroundings.

Accept treats only in the doorway. Never go inside a house, regardless of the situation.

Always say "thank you" for your treats.

Never play near lit jack-o-lanterns.

Visit only houses where the lights are on and there appears to be activity.

Don't pet dogs you don't know while visiting homes in your neighborhood.

Walk, don't run.

Walk on sidewalks and driveways.

Cross the street at the corner or in a crosswalk.

Take a cellular phone with you if possible.

Wear a watch.

Carry a flashlight.

HAVE FUN!

Kids and Parents:

Pumpkin carving is fun, but it can also be dangerous if not done properly. Make sure knives/carving tools are used safely and with proper supervision. Make sure your Jack O'Lantern, if illuminated with a candle, is not left unattended for long periods of time. Always keep a fire extinguisher nearby.
